Leaf in the Wind

I have no anchor.
I'm a leaf in the wind.

Unexpected.
That's what this is.
Cold turkey
And the shakes are setting in

It's a punch to the stomach
That's knocked out my wind
It's a knife in the gut
And I'm all but done in

Didn't build my world around you
You weren't my everything
Still I can't pretend it didn't matter
I feel my head begin to spin

I never saw it coming.
I never saw a thing.
I'm adrift without an anchor.
I'm a leaf in the wind.

Adrift without an anchor.

A leaf in the wind.

Unconscious Uncoupling

So close
We were the closest
Of friends
We were the bestest
Of loves
Ours was the greatest
Of falls
This was the hardest.

Your eyes told stories
Far beyond words
Never had to explain things
Emotions were heard
I could always tell what you were feeling
Like your own personal
Human mood ring
And you never had to ask
"Well what do you think?"
Cause we were in tune
On a wave and in sync.

Many times I've heard it said
That all good things
One day come to an end.
So then what about the bad?
What message does that send?
Kinda makes me second guess
The meaning of "friend".

Something's broken
Or else something's grown
And for some reason or other
We don't fit anymo'.
It just happened so quick though
Quicker even than I could follow.
This truly is a hard pill to swallow.
Guess you can never predict
How the wind's gonna blow,
Just like that, overnight,
you've become
A person that I used to know.

Interlude for the Interim

In this moment, I feel.
In this moment, I know.
It's in the way the currents run.
It's in the winds that blow.
A change is in the air,
I've caught its scent
And I am certain.
A new act is about to start,
They're drawing back the curtain.
The tide of time is turning.
The midnight oil is burning.
The old order is soon to pass.
A new day is dawning.
Time to get rid of the trash
To make room for what's coming.
Let those who have an ear to hear
Take heed of this warning.

Army of One

It only takes one voice
To make a difference,
One tiny dislodged pebble
That loosens another
And brings on an avalanche.
One time is all it takes
For a habit to begin to form
And a single word,
Spoken with boldness-
A single no,
A simple yes-
Can trigger change
Through the power of influence.

Shifting Sands

I can't tell you how I feel,
So I'll just write it down
To get it out my head.

So many things I'd like to say.
Like so many prisoners
Locked up in my chest.

We used to be,
We used to be...

I could say all the words
I think you'd somehow
Want to hear from me
But it wouldn't matter.
It wouldn't mean a thing
Cause in the end,
You can always see
Straight through me.

We used to be,
We used to be...

I wish that we could've stayed
The way we were back then
But time moves fast,
The moments pass
And even good things must end.

We tried to build a castle
On shifting sand
But in the changing of the seasons
It slipped away
Right through our hands.

We used to be,
We used to be...

I will always cherish
The memories of you.

Wild Side

It's a beautiful day
To take a walk on the wild side.
What a day,
A lovely day
To take a walk on the wild side.

I didn't know I could feel this way,
Throw all my worries and concerns away.
I had no idea I could feel this way,
Shelf the drama and go out and play.

It's such a glorious day
And I'm walking on the wild side.

Are you feeling like
You've missed your last chance?
Are you thinking about
All the stuff in your past?
Forget your blues,
Pump the electro
And dance.

It's such a glorious day
For you to step out
And take a walk
On the wild side.
Don't be afraid.
Today's the day
To start walking on the wild side.

NWO

Something's coming,
Can you feel it?
Something's coming
And you can't escape it.
Something's coming
So get ready.
You either fight it
Or you embrace it.

Let go of what you knew before,
All those old things, they are no more.
The latter will replace the former
Best get ready
It's a new world order.

So whatcha gon' do?
Which side will you choose?
Cause either way you lose-
Resistance brings its own dark cloud;
You sell your soul if you bow down.

But no matter what they say,
This street only runs two ways:
You either rise or else you fall
And this time you can't have it all.

Busted Us

You and I, we were so close.
What happened to us?
Have I changed that much?
Or is it you who's different?

You and I, we had something special.
Something precious we swore would never end.
It was just that strong
But then,
It did.
And yet we were so very sure...

Where did we go wrong, you and I?
Was it overconfidence that broke our stride?
Did we get so comfortable that we just stopped trying?
Or were we a mistake from the beginning?

All this wondering is futile I suppose.
I guess if we had the answers...
Well, who really knows?
At this point the only thing I can see clearly
Is that you plus I no longer makes a we.

It's On!

New day.
New lay.
New purpose,
Ok.
New perspective,
New say.
New directives
To obey.
New goals,
New clay.
New tools,
New way.
New battle,
New fray.
New addiction?
Not today.
New rules,
Let's play!

Summer...

He is a tease;
A flirt with eyes of gold
Or, at best, a respite from the cold.
The warmth he brings
A passing guest,
A stranger,
A traveller on a quest
En route to other parts
That he knows best.
A visitor.
A tourist.
A frequent flyer.
Not a resident
Or a citizen
But a gun for hire,
While winter's chilly arms are far reaching
Ever groping,
Ever seeking.
Even during her time away,
Her icy fingers often stray
Into pools where children splash and play.
She recks nothing of the glad sun's rays
That bathe the land in estival days.
Her caress an echo of attenuated power,
A predator awaiting her hour,
A grip relaxed but not released;
A victor preparing for the feast.

So what then is summer to a child
Birthed by the waters of a tropical tide
But a brief truce, a merry farce
A pale imitation to make the gods laugh;
An offering to placate and mellow
Before a fresh onslaught
From the frost giants' bellows?

Summer...
A living vision, a waking dream
That dissipates like a puff of steam
On the breath of a frozen scream.
Transient,
Ethereal,
And surreal.

State of Angst

Amber lights,
Ghetto nights:
Cougar on her haunches strikes;
In the dimness of the day,
Others hover round their prey.
Each stalking some elusive thrill:
Hungry, greedy for the kill.

Tangential acts of random violence
Explode like bombs in the frigid silence.
And the watchers stand and gaze
Like spectres silhouetted by the blaze,
Eyes aglaze with dancing flames,
As sheets of green and purple haze
One by one the stars erase.

But who would dare defy the rage
Of the bird who sings inside her cage
Desperate for her state to change:
A chance to flap her wings and fly
On a wind that lifts her up on high?
But she, condemned to sit and stare,
Conjuring up castles in the air,
Tries her hardest not to care
While those around her, paralysed by fear,
Wait in apathy as doom draws near.

Divestment

It's time...

For all the years spent trying:
Be stalwart, be calm,
Patient and kind,
Yet ever armed;
Be wise and subtle,
Be firm and yet humble;
Be genuine but know how to fake,
Bend like the green willow but never break;
Never let them see behind your game face...

All the while knowingly lying
For the sake of conforming
To social grace.

The walls I built with reinforced steel
Turned into a prison that would not yield
Even to my hand,
When, at last a man,
I came to understand
That in weakness there can be strength
In awkwardness, stealth
And underneath poverty, untold wealth.

When at last I opened my eyes
Finally beginning to realise
That I'd read the signs wrong
That I'd been brainwashed all along
Into thinking I needed to kill
All the while amassing debt in an unpayable bill,
Keeping me enslaved, effacing my will;
Leaving me numb, soulless and ill
But demanding more and even more still...

So I decided
It's time:
Time to let go
Time to strip off all the masks and pretense and ego
Time to look into the mirror and finally know
What's really there so I can undergo
The metamorphosis that must inevitably follow...

Time to put all I've learnt to the test.
Time to come face to face with my best.
Time to be strong and leave fear powerless.
Time to be vulnerable, not time to hide.
And at the edge of this decision, I cried.

Shameless...

E-Flow Manifesto

Lethargy.
My effigy’s
Impressed on thee.
Put no stress on me.

I watch you strut your stuff so impressively
It’s like you’re testin’ me.
And I don’t know
What you think you see
But I’ma bring it;
Be all I can be.
You bring yours too.
Do it dutifully
But oh so beautifully,
So your performance ends tearfully
But also cheerfully.
Let me see you really care for me
Lemme know you’re there for me
So I don’t live fearfully
Though I may move carefully.
Just keep it clean and free from vanity.

Don’t need profanity
To speak expressively
I’m just collectively
Sharing my recipe;
It’s alright if you disagree.
You don’t have to follow me.
Share your affinities
And creativities
With like-minded brothers of fraternities
But there’s no recruiting me.
I’ll walk the path of destiny;
Live life in unity
With those in harmony
With God’s philosophy.
Speak words of prophecy .
No more  hypocrisy.
Drop all the mockery.
Forget what was wrongfully
And undeservedly
Tagged on your back
In scarlet lettery
Flee hopeless tyranny;
Let’s leave captivity
And seek out and pursue real liberty!

Aviary Revolution

No more dark thoughts of dread
Like thunder pounding in my head.

No more long nights lying awake
In fear of the searching light of daybreak.

No more of the excuses that I once wore
Like dirty bandages over putrid sores.

No more cringing at the stares I've borne
From soulless children of the corn.

Content no more with the crusts of bread
That keep me little more than dead.

No more! I say. Nay, I cry!
While from mountain peaks that touch the sky
My soul, unfettered from the earth,
Takes wing and soars amidst the mirth
Of freedom's wind and bliss' rain
Far from the dying echoes of pain.

Fear of Bliss

I feel like shit
Shit is how I feel
Need to get it out
And tell the universe about my crap
Otherwise I fear
I will explode
With all the things I leave
Unsaid.
And all the questions in my head
All the people I try to avoid
All the ways I try to hide
Behind a curtain
Hastily contrived
To screen my eyes
From scrutiny.
That’s the way I get my therapy
I talk of flying
Of liberty
But when I come to take the leap
I choke
Standing just upon the
Brink
I cry and plead
For an open door
To get me out of box and cage
To spread my wings and soar
Above river and mountain and plain
But once freedom’s wish is granted
I panic
And wedge myself into a corner
And pray for open spaces,
Friendly faces
In far off exotic places...
A sure end to all my sorrow
An end for sure,
...But tomorrow
