Period Pains

Lord I’m a mess!

Now I know for sure God has a sense of humour-

And a severely twisted one at that!

How else could you explain going through

A physical and emotional blender

Every month for 30-odd years of your life?

Now I must admit

That from the outside this must look pretty damn funny-

Like one of those old black and white comedies

With the corny piano music:

Mute the sound and what do you get?

A hysterical madwoman

Flailing her arms,

And throwing tantrums

(And whatever else happens to be within reach)

Like a two-year old.

Then there’s those mood swings

Screaming down the house one minute

Then bawling her eyes out the next,

Later doubled over in pain

Breathing death to all men

For not having to share in the torture of the menstrual cycle-

It’s a bona fide stand up routine!

(Maybe I could take this puppy on the road-

Might as well turn a couple dollars while I’m at it).

The funniest thing about it is

Here I am with all the symptoms

Of a hormonal PMS-ing bitch

In the body of a man!

Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humour!
