Rage Against the Clock

Bags and sags
You're aging bad.
Pot in your belly
Thighs made of jelly.
Thinning hair not so neat,
Sprinkles of grey and crows' feet.
Gels, powders and patches,
Injections, implants and false eye lashes,
Creams and dyes-
Make sure there's no lye!
But no matter what you try,
You can't deny
The fact that time is passing you by.
So why not just face it?
Turn around and embrace it
Rather than fight it endlessly
Knowing full well you'll lose eventually.
Love the beauty in the flaws you see
Live out your latter years fully
And then opt to bow out gracefully.

Awkward Silence

Tic. Toc.
The second hand marks time
Like waves crashing on a dock.

Tic. Toc.
Sitting. Idly waiting.
Mouths tightly locked.

Tic. Toc.
What's it been? Like, forever?
Nope, not according to the clock!

Tic. Toc.
Meanwhile Time, that old jester,
Just prances and mocks?

Tic. Toc. Toc. Tic.
Sigh, the quiet is grueling
And it's making me sick!

Tic. Toc. Toc. Tic.
You can hear a fly tiptoe
Outside a pane five inches thick.

Tic. Toc. Toc. Tic. Toc. Tic. Tic. Toc.
Please, oh please,
Won't somebody make it stop?

Tic. Toc.
If this doesn't end soon
I'ma have to reach for my glock!

Pardon Undetermined

I'd be lying if I said
I was completely over it.
Time is at work.
This much is certain.
But beyond that,
I can't give you any specifics
As to how long it'll be
'Til I let you go free
From the hook of the resentment I still bear you.
I realise that such frankness is unusual.
That I'm not being very "p.c."
But I'm not in the mood
To sully my brain
Trying to shovel bullshit your way
For the sake of appearances
And socially approved formalities.
We're past that.
You said your piece.
I've spoken my mind.
So, maybe now
We can move on with our lives.
I know I preach forgiveness,
And this attitude of mine
Feels like a load of hypocrisy
But you must realise
Some wounds cut much deeper than others,
And for a hurt of this kind
Any remedy I may need to apply
Will only take effect over time.
So then the question is not
If I'll forgive you,
For I doubtlessly will,
But when.

When...
And how long until then?

Quietly

Something different...
Drops of rain
Fall soundessly past the window pane.
A single sprout
Works tireslessly upward through layers of dirt,
Breaking the surface of the soil
To surprise the planter...

An old man in his apartment
Is watching his favourite show.
He leans back to rest his eyes,
 Enjoying the theme music
And softly breathes his last...

Somewhere else,
A babe is born...

Winter passes into spring,
Then spring to summer,
Summer transitions into fall
And back again...

And life goes on
...quietly.

And change happens
...quietly.

You live out your days
With your nose to the grindstone
And wake up one day
To find things are different.

So the world turns
...quietly.

...And that's the way it goes...

Tortoise Wisdom

'Could you be any slower?'
Said the hare to Brother Tortoise,
'Why, I could run to the edge of the world
and back and you'd still be on your doorstep!'

'I don't mind all that Brother Hare,'
replied he in slow deliberate tone,
'As long as I reach my destination,
I don't mind at all how long it takes.'

The years wore on
and Brother Hare continued to run.
He zipped and zoomed
til he almost flew,
growing faster with each passing day.

Brother Tortoise kept on his steady gait,
never faltering in his discipline.
He watched the hare rush
madly toward the end of his days.

It was the same for the hare's son,
grandson and down the line-
Blowing through life
At the speed of sound,
Seeing but never understanding,
hearing but never listening.

The tortoise's life was not so;
He received the greatest prize of all:
For you see,
In taking the time to live,
Brother Tortoise really lived.

In Time

So much to say,
So much to much to try.
So many things unspoken,
Suspended in the mind.
So many battles lost,
So many left to fight.
So many chances untapped,
Rehashed in 20-20 hindsight.
So many lessons to be learnt
Before the final exam.
So many things to let go of
To make room for things to come.
So much washed away,
like water under a bridge.
So much to do, to see,
So many reasons to live.
So many people to meet:
Friends and foes, rivals and allies.
So many courses to explore
While navigating the river of time.
